War Front’s 3-time Grade 1 winner Omaha Beach has been named as a finalist in the 49th Annual Eclipse Awards, to be held January 23, 2020 at Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino in Hallendale Beach, Florida.
Omaha Beach is up for 3-Year-Old Male honors, and will contend against Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Code of Honor and 3-time Grade 1 winner Maximum Security. In 2019, Omaha Beach won the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes, Grade 1 Arkansas Derby, Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes, and the Grade 1 Malibu; he finished second, respectively, in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
Omaha Beach’s win in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes, where he put away the game Shancelot in his first start back since scratching as the favorite for the Kentucky Derby, is a finalist for the NTRA’s “Moment of the Year.” Voting for this is open to the public on NTRA.com.
The son of War Front is currently targeting the $3 million Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Presented by Runhappy, which runs two days after the Eclipse Awards; the 1 1/8th-mile race is expected to be Omaha Beach’s final career start before retiring to stud.
