After his first crop of weanlings graced the sales rings, Mastery has found himself among the top 15 leading sires of weanlings by average. He is one of only three freshman stallions to rank among that group, following only 2017 Horse of the Year Gun Runner and all-time leading money earner Arrogate. A total of fifteen Mastery weanlings sold in 2019 for an average of $161,800, which equates to over six times his stud fee of $25,000.
Mastery’s highest-priced weanling, a colt consigned by South Point Sales out of Native One, sold for $325,000 to OXO Equine at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale. His average at that sale was $282,500.
Hip 219 was Mastery’s best seller at Keeneland November, bringing $290,000 for consignor Bedouin Bloodstock. The colt out of Distinta, by Summer Bird, was purchased by de Meric Stables. Mastery’s weanling average at Keeneland was 143,230.
Mastery stands at Claiborne Farm.
