For the second time in two days, SILVER STATE recorded a new winner when One Hit Wonder won a Maiden Special Weight at Mountaineer.
The five furlong sprint saw One Hit Wonder come out of the gate last, but quickly racing up to right behind the leader. She shadowed that one throughout much of the run, biding her time until they hit the stretch. She took full advantage of her rail spot, flying up the inside in the final furlong to engage the leader.
The battle didn’t last long with the pacesetter grudgingly giving in and One Hit Wonder won by half a length as the race favorite.
Trained by Anthony Farrior for Chistopher Mellon, the Purple H Bloodstock-bred has hit the board in two of her starts with that other placing coming at Laurel.
Sold to her trainer by Claiborne Farm at Keeneland September, One Hit Wonder is out of the seven-time stakes winner Alliford Bay. That mare is the dam of three winners from three to race as one of three winners from three to race out of her own dam.
That dam, dual stakes winner Valentine Fever, also produced Grade 2 winner Venus Valentine. There is plenty of stakes form throughout this family with Grade 1 winners Gal In a Ruckus, Clean Sweep, Soft Falling Rain, and Habibti all hailing from it.
One Hit Wonder followed up Savage State’s 8 ½ length Maiden Special victory on Monday to become SILVER STATE’s eighth winner.
