Flatter and July go together like Independence Day and fireworks. For the second year in a row, the Claiborne stallion has sired the Fasig Tipton July Sale topper. This year’s colt, out of multiple-stakes placed Cherokee Run mare Ruth and Neva, lit up the sales ring for $440,000.
Bred by Susan King in Kentucky, the good-looking yearling was consigned by Indian Creek and bought by China Horse Club and WinStar’s Maverick Racing. Per the Paulick Report, Elliot Walden said of the colt, “We thought he was the best horse here, from a proven sire, and he checked what we like as far as going forward. I think he’ll look good in the stud barn if he can win a Grade 1.”
Sire of 52 stakes winners, including Eclipse 3-Year-Old Champion West Coast and Canadian Juvenile Champion Avie’s Flatter, Flatter stands at Claiborne for $40,000.
