WAR FRONT’s Fort Washington registered his second straight graded stakes victory on Saturday with a win in the Dinner Party S. (G3) on the Preakness undercard.
Coming into this race after a win in the Canadian Turf S. (G3) in March, Fort Washington broke from the outside gate in the 1 1/8-mile race and used that clear path to happily settle himself just a few lengths behind the leader.
Fort Washington wasn’t in a hurry to move closer, not making a move to close the margin until they started to approach the far turn. It took only a short time for Fort Washington to challenge with the horse taking it over early in the stretch.
Fort Washington easily held off Cash Equity to win by a length and register his sixth career victory.
Trained by Shug McGaughey for Magic Cap Stables, the Joseph Allen and White Birch Farm-bred has now finished in the top three in 12 stakes dating back to his 3-year-old year.
The 6-year-old is one of three winners from three to race out of the Group 3 placed Azaelia, who was also fourth in the Prix de Diane (G1). The family also includes stakes winner and Group 1 placed Asti with each of Fort Washington’s first five dams having stakes performers under their names.
Azaelia foaled a full sister to Fort Washington last year.
The horse had already been part of a memorable day for WAR FRONT in 2025 as one of two stakes winners for the stallion on March 1st.
