CRONINTHEBARBARIAN placed in his fourth stakes in five starts this year after finishing just a length back of the win in the one mile Manila S. on Belmont’s turf course. The 3-year-old colt by STROLL dropped off the pace only about three lengths off the lead and closed the gap through the stretch to just fall short of getting the win. CRONINTHEBARBARIAN started the year off placing in the Grade 3 Dania Beach S. and Kitten’s Joy S., both at Gulfstream Park, and also was runner-up in Belmont’s Paradise Creek S. Last year he won the $200,000 Kentucky Downs Juvenile in his third start and has now won or placed in eight of 10 career starts with earnings over $206,000.
